My son is new to volleyball, can he still play at Bay to Bay?

Accepted Answer

Yes! Bay to Bay has multiple groups at each level. We cater to a wide variety of playing experience and skill levels, from beginners to returning National Champions.

For example, our 14's division has four teams. Here is the breakdown on each teams level:
14-1 = top team in the age group, consistently top-5 nationally
14-Premier = second team in the age group, consistently in the top-30 nationally
14-Club = third team in the age group, consistently in the top-50 nationally
14-National = fourth team in the age group, consistently in the top-75 nationally

How do you determine the participation age of an athlete?

Our governing body, USA Volleyball defines the participation age of athletes as the players age on July 1st of the competition year.

Use this helpful chart to determine which age group you fall into based upon your birth year and month.

What is the roster size of teams?

Travel Team roster sizes for each team range from 11-13 players (practices follow a team specific plan)

Training Groups typically have 16-20 players per group (practices follow a clinic style plan)
 
Bay to Bay carries approximately 23 travel teams in age divisions from 11 and under up to 18 and under and 6 training groups in ages 10-14 years old.

What is the schedule for teams?

During the Fall (September - January):
- Travel teams practice 2x a week on Saturdays and Sundays and can supplement their team practice with our position specific skills practices: Pin Hitters, Setters, Middles/Liberos. During the Spring (February - April):
- Travel teams practice 2x a week (1 weeknight and 1 weekend practice).

- Local Training Groups practice 1x a week for 9 total sessions.

Both Travel Teams and Local Training Groups will compete in two local in-house tournaments. The Travel Teams will also compete in the SoCal Cup Equinox tournament on March 8-9th in Seal Beach, California.

During the Summer (May - July):
- Travel teams practice 4-5x a week in preparation for the National Championships

- Local Training Groups practice 2x a week for 9 total sessions.

What are the practice locations?

We utilize a number of different gyms throughout the South Bay Area which allows us to train more than any other club in the country! Team practice schedule/locations are dependent on gym availability and coach preference:
 
South Bay Gyms:
- Campbell Community Center (1 Campbell Ave, Campbell)
- Mission College (3000 Mission College Blvd, Santa Clara)
- Foothill College (12345 El Monte Rd, Los Altos)
- West Valley College (14000 Fruitvale Ave, Saratoga)
- Willow Glen High School (2000 Cottle Ave, San Jose)
 
LEMO facility in Redwood City will serve as a backup location for weekend practices when South Bay gyms are unavailable.

Will there be tournaments?

Yes! Athletes on our Travel Teams will compete in the following:

- WCVBA Regional Power League (7 competition days between September - November)
- Winter Formal in Las Vegas, NV (December 14th-16th)
- Open Championship in Los Angeles (January 18th-20th)
- **U14 Spring Athletes only: SoCal Cup Equinox in Seal Beach (March 8th-9th)
- NorCal Cup in San Jose (early June)
- SoCal Cup Showcase in Los Angeles (June 13th-15th)
- AAU National Championships in Orlando, FL (June 28th-July 7th)

Athletes in our Local Training Group program will compete in two tournaments:
- The Grass Man in San Jose (October 13th)
- In-House Tournament in San Jose (December 8th)

Question 7

What does it cost to play?

Accepted Answer

Club Dues for the 2024-25 travel team season will be ~$5,700.

Uniform dues are $400 and the same uniforms will be used through the 2025-26 season.

For the 11/12/13/14's teams, there is an optional Spring season which will bridge the gap during the high school season break. Teams will continue to practice 2x a week and compete in 1 national tournament in SoCal. Spring Dues will be ~$1,000.
